Mbudya Island Marine Pollution Assessment and Clean-Up

In 2024, GERF spearheaded a comprehensive clean-up and waste audit on Mbudya Island alongside other stakeholders. The team collected and categorized marine debris, finding that: 85% of the waste was plastic bottles, 80% consisted of foam pieces, 52% were flip-flops and shoes, 21% were glass bottles

Beyond local initiatives, GERF actively takes part in global commemorations such as World Clean-Up Day, International Oceans Day, and other clean-up activities in partnership with environmental organizations. These events serve as platforms to amplify awareness and galvanize collective action for the protection of our oceans.
