On 20 September,GERF joined environmental organizations, studets ,community members, volunteers and other stakeholders at Silver Sands Beach to commemorate World Clean up Day 2026.
The event brought people from different backgrounds with one shared goal:to take action against waste pollution and conribute to a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment.
Together we were 279 participants, including 130students and collected 285+ waste bags weighing 2,037.75 kg from the beach.The significant amount of waste collected highlihted both the scale of the pollution challenge and the impac that can be achieved when communities come together to take action
The participation of the students was particularly meaningful, providing an opportunity to strengthen environmental awareness and encourage young people to be actve stewards of their communities and natural environment. Through practical involvement students were able to see firstthand the importance of responsible waste management and protecting our coastal environments.
For GERF the event reflected our continued commitment to environmental education, conservation, ecological restoration, climate action and community engagement. The collaboration between organizations, schools, volunteers, communities and environmental champions demonstrated the power of partnerships in addressing environmental challenges.
The cleanup was a reminder that every action matters from a student picking a piece of plastics to organizations joining hands to protect our environment, collective efforts can create meaningful change.
