World Clean up Day was commemorated this month on the 20 th of September, a global movement that unites millions of people to tackle waste and protect our planet. At Silversands, Kunduchi area, we proudly joined hands with fellow environmenta champions to celebrate this important day and to take concrete action in safeguarding our shared environment.
The event brought together more than 20 organizations, 200+ participants, and 120 students, all united by a common goal. Together, we collected 350+ waste bags weighing 2,835 kgs of waste, the equivalent of over 8 tons of Co2 emmissions when incinerated. This achievement reflects the power of collabration and impact that collective effort can generate.
In Dar es salaam, research shows that near 60 % of solid waste originates from households, much of which unfortunately ends in the indian ocean. This waste particularly plastics, pose a threat to the marine ecosystems, endangering fish, turtules, coral reefs and countless other species. protecting this ecosystems is not only about conserving nature , it is also about ensuring food security, livelihoods and well being of our communites.
During this year's commemoration, the cleanup went beyond collecting wate. it was also a plartform to sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas and building networks among like mminded stakeholders. Together we are laying a foundation for stronger partnerships that will continue to drive sustainable change.
We extend our sincere appreciation to our incredible partners whose presence and support made this initiative a success: Sanamare Tanazania, National Eniviromental Management Council(NEMC), Marine Parks and Reserves Tanzania, University of Dar Es Salaam, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete Foundation, SOA Tanzania, Mazingira Plus, VSO Tanzania, Serving Waters, Sukoskova Foundation, Action For Ocean(AFO), MEMA Foundation, Sustainable Future Initiative, FEZA Schools, ANTIPOACHING club Africa, JUZA, Blue Horizon Tanzania,Transforming Life, Kilislants, BechfoldSTIFTUNG, cjstudio, boresharadio.
