We have just wrapped up the first phase of Monitoring and Evaluation for the Edu Green program at the Mkenge Primary School, in Bagamoyo region. What we saw gave us so much hope. Mkenge is a very dry area, and growing trees here is not easy. but even with the few water tanks we donated, the students have gone above and beyond. Every day, they make it part of their routine to water and look after young trees.
Through their Mali Hai Environmental Club, they are not only learning about trees but also building a habit of caring for the environment wherever they go. Watching these children take resposibility reminds us that change really does begin with small, consistent actions.
Of course, the challenge is still there. Water is limited and as the tree grow, they will need even more care. That is why we are reaching out to friends, stakeholders and partners to walk with us, let us not let this journey stop here. We all need a future where children grow up understanding the value of trees and the many benefits they bring.
Much appreciation goes to the teachers, students and our partners Tanzania Forest Services Agency, Arts in Tanzania, Association of Tanzanian Water Suppliers(ATAWAS) for their steady support. This journey is just beginning and with more hands joining in, we can turn dry ground into a living , green classroom.
