In collaboration with other environmental stakeholders, GERF joined the Kawe Beach clean-up initiative. This campaign was part of our ongoing efforts to preserve Dar es Salaam’s beaches and marine environment by removing plastics and other pollutants. The Blue Wave Initiative is GERF’s flagship program focused on marine and coastal environmental conservation through clean-ups, trainings, and waste audit & brand analysis (WABA) activities. The initiative engages communities, local authorities, and environmental stakeholders to address marine pollution, promote sustainable practices, and raise awareness on ocean protection.

Beyond local initiatives, GERF actively participates in global events such as World Clean-Up Day and International Oceans Day, amplifying awareness and mobilizing collective action for ocean protection.
-Coco Beach Boys Environmental Conservation Training (August 2022):
GERF provided 100 beach cleaning tools and conducted training for 20 Coco Beach Boys, covering safe waste handling and the importance of maintaining clean and safe beaches for local communities and tourists. The initiative emphasizes capacity-building, empowering communities to sustain clean and healthy coastal environments.
WABA (Waste Audit & Brand Analysis)
GERF integrates WABA assessments into clean-up activities to identify waste composition, sources, and brand prevalence. This data informs targeted interventions, advocacy campaigns, and partnerships with private sector actors to reduce marine pollution effectively. Through the Blue Wave Initiative, GERF combines environmental conservation with community empowerment, fostering long-term sustainable practices and promoting a harmonious relationship between people and the ocean.
